Sunshine, Stories & a Little Escape: My Favourite Summer Reads
Summer’s finally rolled in, and I couldn’t be happier. For me, this season is all about slow mornings, sunshine on my skin, a cold drink in hand (hello, Aperol spritz), and getting lost in a really good book. There’s something magical about reading with the hum of summer in the background, whether I’m sprawled out on a picnic blanket, dipping my toes in the sea, or curled up on a shady balcony.
If you’re anything like me and love the idea of turning pages under a blue sky, I’ve pulled together a few of my favourite summer reads, the kind of books that make you smile, escape, and maybe stay up a little too late. Let’s find your next feel-good read, shall we?
For the romance reader …
If you’re craving a rom-com with a side of sunshine and small-town charm, The Catch by Amy Lea needs to be on your summer reading list. This one gave me all the warm-weather feels — think cozy seaside vibes, fake dating hijinks, and just the right amount of spice. It’s equal parts swoony and hilarious, with heartwarming moments and a setting that practically smells like salt air and sunscreen. Perfect for reading on a sun lounger, with a cold drink and absolutely no plans.
For the thriller/crime reader …
Set in a dreamy Italian villa (yes, please) this book brings all the summer heat, but with a side of suspense that’ll keep you flipping pages under your sun hat. Perfect for if you're looking for something a little darker to balance out your beach read stack. This one’s perfect if you love your summer reads with a little bite, think beachy thriller meets reality-show drama. Best enjoyed with a chilled glass of rosé and your toes in the sand (or your feet safely tucked up at home with the doors locked, just saying…).
For the fantasy reader …

Okay, I had to save the best for last, Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid is hands-down my favourite book on this list. It’s got everything I love in a summer read: sandy beaches, sizzling family drama, 80s glamour, and characters that feel so real, I still think about them long after the last page. There’s surfing, sibling bonds, fame, fire (literal and emotional), and that signature TJR storytelling magic that makes you feel like you’re living it all right alongside them. It’s cinematic, deeply emotional, and totally transportive. The kind of book you want to read by the ocean, then immediately recommend to your best friend. Trust me, if you only read one book this summer, make it this one. I’ll be over here, emotionally recovering (again).
